Ogden, Utah — Weber School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, in partnership with the Weber School Foundation, is proud to continue on year three of “Gearing Up for Good,” a hands-on service initiative that combines real-world skills with community impact.
Through this program, high school students enrolled in the Bicycle Repair class at Weber Innovation, are restoring donated bicycles and preparing them for elementary school students across the district. The initiative provides younger students with access to bikes while giving high school students meaningful, career-connected learning experiences.
Students in the program gain practical skills in mechanics, problem-solving, and teamwork as they inspect, repair, and ensure each bike is safe and ready to ride. Beyond technical training, “Gearing Up for Good” emphasizes service, responsibility, and community connection—key components of Weber School District’s CTE mission.
“This project is a powerful example of learning by doing,” said Rod Belnap, CTE Director. “Our students are not only building valuable career skills, but they are also making a direct and positive impact in the lives of younger students in our community. Our mission in Weber School District and CTE is to make a difference through the skills we acquire and this is impacting lives for the good.”
The Weber School Foundation played a key role by helping coordinate bike donations and supporting the distribution process to elementary schools. Their partnership ensures that the program reaches students who will benefit most.
“Gearing Up for Good” reflects the district’s commitment to providing authentic learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and into the community.
